Farewell 2020


December! We celebrate,

With vows and bows.

Bounty 2020 we crawled,

With thoughts that snarled.

 

Year of virus or wires?

 

Old and young queued,

Booked seats for joy rides.

Surprised faces at ticket window.

No fare though all fair!

 

Class, kind and bank book,

Scrapped one and all in a nook.

Transit passengers in roller coaster ride,

The few crossed joy ride.

 

A gamble of wires or virus!

 

Withered spring and frigid summers,

Like the clock ticking on the confined walls.

Whizzy winters of December 2020,

Despair to hope from 31st to 1st.

 

Fare it well with Farewell.

Saccharine songs like obituaries.

Wreaths, lights and crackers crackle,

At the dusk of December 2020.

 

We greet the 21st year of 21st century.

​ Sometimes the smallest encounters leave an imprint that stays for longer than you would expect. A moment becomes a memory, amalgamated from both sweet and bitter experiences. I love the prairie summers, and getting home on the bus is my favorite part of the day. Sometime in July, 2024, I was all set to enjoy my bus ride. ​ Like a song that lingers in the mind, And we sing unaware of why we sing. Somedays people, other days events, Repeat in my mind. Today, I was under the spell of the word, nitpicking- not that I was enriching my vocabulary, But thinking of what memories it brought, Bittersweet or sweeter bitter.
